In our climate, air conditioning efficiency becomes more important the more the air conditioner is used. Efficiency is measured in a rating called a SEER. This stands for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio. This number is arrived at by using a complicated formula but is essentially the amount of cooling (BTU) divided by electrical consumption (watts). The minimum efficiency that can now be manufactured is 10 SEER. Although units are made with efficiencies over 17 SEER, the limited hours of operation in this area limit the highest practical efficiency to 12 or 13 SEER.

While efficiency is important in choosing an air conditioner model, other factors may be just as important. The Clean Air Act has instituted mandatory refrigerant phase out dates.  Carrier has been aggressive is developing alternative refrigerants for residential units.  Puron is the new refrigerant of choice for such units.  We have installed many Puron systems over the last few years with great results.

Sound levels are another important issue.  An air conditioner that is noisy can ruin any time you may spend outdoors on a patio or deck. That is why the Carrier Silencer System is so important. The Silencer System includes the Inviroflow top, a compressor vibration isolator plate, and a sound muffling compressor hood. The Carrier units with a Silencer System are so quiet, it takes 16 Carrier units to equal the sound levels of some of our competitors units.

Another important issue is a matched system. To ensure that you get the best performance possible, your air conditioner should be matched with the proper Carrier evaporator coil. The evaporator coil is a vital component in your indoor either system. As indoor air flows across the coil, heat and humidity are drawn out. Carrier evaporator coils are built with grooved copper tubing that allows the refrigerant to flow through easily and efficiently. In addition Carrier evaporator coils include an Accurator which accurately controls refrigerant flow and is custom matched to your system for optimum efficiency.
